To ensure the best possible results and minimize the chance of bruising and swelling, following a few simple pre-care steps is highly recommended:

• Avoid Blood Thinners: Stop taking all non-essential blood-thinning medications and supplements, if medically cleared by your physician, for at least 7 days before your appointment. This includes Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve), and certain dietary supplements like fish oil, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, and high-dose Garlic.

• Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to your treatment, as alcohol can also thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.

• Manage Cold Sores: If you are prone to cold sores, please inform Dr. Rahi’s office. You may be advised to start a prophylactic antiviral medication a few days before your procedure to prevent an outbreak.

• Reschedule if: If you have an active cold, flu, rash, or blemish near the injection area, you must reschedule your appointment to ensure a safe procedure and optimal healing.

The steps you take immediately after your appointment are vital for achieving the beautiful, lasting results you desire.

• Apply Ice: Use the provided cold compress or an ice pack intermittently for the first few hours after treatment to help reduce swelling. Do not apply heavy pressure.

• Keep Your Head Elevated: Try to sleep with your head slightly elevated on pillows for the first night to help manage swelling.

• Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water. As a hyaluronic acid filler draws water, being well-hydrated helps the filler settle smoothly and optimally.

• Avoid Strenuous Activity: Refrain from heavy exercise, hot tubs, saunas, or excessive heat exposure for at least 24-48 hours. Increased blood flow can exacerbate swelling and bruising.

• Gentle Cleansing: Be very gentle when washing your face and applying makeup. Avoid manipulating, rubbing, or pressing on the lips for at least 3 days.

• Follow-Up: If you notice any unusual discoloration, blanching, or severe pain, contact The Aesthetic Room immediately. While rare, Dr. Lazzari ensures patients are aware of all safety protocols.
